PD303 Firearms Licence Application
Application Form
First you need to download a PD303 Firearms Licence Application Form, or ask for one at a Police Station.
Firearm Category and Licence Category
You must decide what you want to use your Firearm(s) for. The application process can appear complex and it is important that you select the correct boxes for your requirements. Therefore don’t hesitate to contact us and we will happily assist with any questions and guidance.
Below are some of the most common selections.
1 - Shooting Club
If you want to join a Shooting Club, then tick the following boxes;
For - Rifle and Shotgun
Select - Firearm Category A and B, Licence Category 1 - Shooting Club
For - Rifle, Shotgun and Handgun
Select - Firearm Category A, B and H, Licence Category 1 - Shooting Club
For - Handgun Only
Select - Firearm Category H, Licence Category 1 - Shooting Club
2 - Target Shooting (non Club)
If you want to Plink or Target Shoot (non Club)
Select - Firearm Category A and B, Licence Category 2 - Target Shooting
3 - Hunting
If you intend to go hunting using either a Rimfire / Centrefire Rifles and Shotguns
Select - Firearm Category A and B, Licence Category 3 - Hunting
5 - Primary Production
If you own land and run a primary production business, or are employed as a primary producer, then subject to SAPOL verification and approval, you may qualify for Primary Production;
Select - Firearm Category A and B, Licence Category 5 - Primary Production
If you wish to apply for a semi-automatic Rimfire or Shotgun for Primary Production
Select - Firearm Category C, Licence Category 5 - Primary Production
4 - Paintball
If you ever want to own a Paintball gun;
Select - Firearm Category A, Licence Category 4 - Paintball Shooting

Note that new Firearms Licence applicants are not required to answer this question if they don’t yet know.
Lodge Your Application
You will need to lodge your Firearms Licence Application at a Police Station with 100 points of identification.

It currently takes about 3 months for SAPOL to process your Firearms Licence Application.

If successful you will receive a ‘SAPOL Approval To Undertake Club and/or TAFE Training Letter’. Read this letter diligently as details are included concerning what Training Course(s) you must complete.
When your Training is satisfactorily completed the Club and/or TAFE will send SAPOL your PD314 Certificate of Training. SAPOL will mail you your license in due course.
The whole process takes many months - be patient - its worth the wait.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you going to join our club and are also doing the TAFE course, please make sure that 1- Shooting club for all Categories you have applied for is selected (ticked) on the form when submitted at the TAFE course otherwise an addition application form and fee maybe required, making the process even longer.
