Range Officer Commands

ALL Range Officer commands must be Loud, Clear and Concise.

Range Open (start of day command - firearms may be setup)

Range Closed (end of day command - after all firearms are secured in vehicles)

Throughout the day …

  • The Range is Clear (of people)

    Commence Fire

  • Cease Fire
    Unload and show clear (make safe)
    RO must check each firearm
    There will be no handling of firearms during the Cease Fire
    Range (5, 6, 7) firearms are Clear
    You may proceed onto the Range

    In an emergency situation …

  • STOP STOP STOP
    Unload and show clear (make safe)

No programmed shooting match may be conducted on a SSAA SA Range unless a qualified Range Officer is present and has control of the firing line.

The Range Officer has the full and final authority and responsibility for the safe and efficient conduct of shooting on the Range. In relation to Safety matters the Range Officer has the power to expel any person or persons who do not obey all Range Rules or who jeopardise the safety of any person on the Range.

Throughout the day

  • Check the IDs of ALL Visitors when signing them in.

  • ALL Shooters attending the range for the first time MUST be given a safety briefing and a copy of the Range Rules. Remember to show where the toilets are located.

  • Range 5, Range 6, Range 7, must each have a Range Officer if they are occupied by Shooters.
